The Mercury, P11, P11A, P11A Ranger, P11A Ranger 750, N15CS, were all built after Norton moved to Plumstead, South East London, in 1963, so these bikes can not be put into the above question. As for asking how many were built, well this would take a huge amount of time to work that all out, and there are also many gaps in the factories dispatch records. I did actually work out how many Mercurys, P11's of all the series, N15CS, G15CS etc were made, but i sat in the Scxience museum for a very long time, from early in the morning till 5pm at night to acumplish such a task. In the above you forgot to mention the Nomads, as this ialso worked out where they all went, to what countries and to what dealers they all went toand the % of who got the most. Well it was some thing i wanted to work out at the time.

The pressed metalwork was made by Shelleys who also owned Norton so what with the "precision"!Engineering being done in house they pretty much made it all.

Hi,

I hope you will not mind but I will re-phrase your question. What you are asking is :-

How many of theHeavyweightmodels did Norton produce. These being7,77,88,88ss,99,99ss,650ss,Mercury,P11,N15, Atlas etc.

I expect these numbers are not known accurately. I will ask Chris Strather if he is aware of any numbers and report back.

Hi,

I have had an email from Chris Sreather, he says that they are working on a list, you may have heard of the factory records project. This was to take all the hand written details of models shipped and put them into digital form. Now this is nearly complete they should be able to get the information you requested.

It will take some time. I would hope that they could publish something in Roadholder when they complete it.

Hello Since One as answered you Question correctly I will For a Starts the Models P11,P15 Atlas And Mercury Are Not Classed As Dominator's As they Have different names The Dominator range stated with the model 7 , and then the model 88 and then the model 99 and the model 77 the last ones where the Model 88SS and model 99SS The 650SS the De-Lux 650 and 650 standard model The 650 Manxman from 1960 to 1961 and 650 Mercury 1968-1970 these had a name of there own as did the Atlas ,1962 to 1967, The P11,N15 were AMC hybrid and were for mainly export , as was the Nomad 1958 to 1960 The early machines where built at Bracebridge street Aston Birmingham until later 1962 , from there its all operations were moved to Plumstead in the London area As Norton and The AMC group were getting cash strapped and went in liquidation in 1966 and was saved by manganese bronze group under Dennis Poore and that were the Commando comes in its really A bigger Dominator Engine in a New frame and Tin and plastic ware, But because it has a the Name Commando That what they are . Just like the name Atlas or Mercury This defines the model of the machine , but to how many were built that would be from 1949 to 1970 this would be roughly 123,000 dominator machines built but you have to see what our dating officer says Yours Anna J Dixon
