Always used Morris 20/50 golden film in primary case and forks on my 1952 Es2 Norton. No issues.
Has anyone used Halfords classic oil 20/50 for primary case,as says on oil tin contains oil seal swell.Just thinking would this be a problem for cush rubbers in clutch, and outer chain case rubber seal band?.Only thinking of using Halfords oil for convenience.
I always use...

Going agricultural
I use tractor universal 10W-30. It's suitable for oil-immersed brakes (strange things tractors) so no anti-friction additives and ideal for primary chaincases. And it's cheap.

Hi Barrie, I too looked at…
Hi Barrie, I too looked at Halfords Classic oil as it was cheap and easy to find in my local Halfords. . I read up on the spec. I bought a gallon . I would say its about the same quality as standard oils we used in 1960 , Back in the day we did not change oils regularly on the old nails we could afford , they wore out fast but parts were cheap. Changed every 1000 miles ( we do that now with our vastly overpriced relics ,don't we ?) I think the bikes would last better than of yore, BUT with the price and scarcity of good spares now ,i want my rebuilt motor to last my lifetime ! ,so I run the Motor on a fully synthetic oil. The Halfords 20/50 is ok for the primary ,forks and oil can. I cant see a little swelling would be detrimental to the rubbers you refer too . They could work better !. I will be on the lookout for Tractor 10/30. Sounds ideal for the primary.
