Polychromatic Grey (Again)

Hi all,

I used RS Motorbike Paint Colours to get a colour match for my 1959 Dominator in polychromatic gunmetal grey and ordered an aerosol to spray a few pieces of tinware.

I love the colour and as far as I can tell it's a very close match to the original. However, after spaying a few parts I realised that I was going to run out of paint before I had completed all the parts, so I made a trip to Halfords.

Armed with one of my painted parts I chose a metallic colour from the Audi range and this colour is AUDI DAKOTA GREY metallic.

Upon spraying the Halfords paint I was amazed that the paint I had chosen seemed to be an exact match and in all different types of light (sunlight, florescent etc) I cannot detect any differences. The colour code is LY1P for those wanting to get some mixed.

I would be great if someone else was willing to do this same experiment and compare their results and let us all know.

Two pics of my headlamp brackets below, one is painted in RS Bike paint polychromatic grey and the other is in Halfords Dakota grey, can you tell which one is which?

hello I would not by any paint from RS paints their colours are not right there is two polychromatic grey shades, not one early polychromatic grey from 1951 to 1955 has gold in its mix and there for gives you a gold sheen, The 1955 on is more silver grey just like you have but try telling RS paint that knows it all, for me I use Nu-aganeauto paint's BEDFORD he been around since 1946 and hispaint some of the best cellulose paint around yours anna j

Hi Anna that's great!

So you're actually saying that I have right paint for a 1959 99? Smile Very encouraging as I didn't want the colour from an earlier model say, pre 55 so it doesn't bother me that RS Paints didn't do two different shades and why would I want the earlier shade anyway when the Dommi is a 59?

Available from Halfords too for £6.99 a can. Nu-Agane = £13.28

Best wishes, Bob
