P11 Forks

Forums

Hello would anybody have any P11 Fork sliders they would be willing to sell I know these are AJS Matchless items but thought I'd ask on the Norton Forum

I can source all the internals from Novil / Andover Norton but my sliders are damaged

Thanks in advance

The P11 fork sliders are of the double lug type, and they have become very hard to find. They can crack down the sides for about six inches. I needed a pair to replace a pair of my own as the previous owner had, had a hydraulic front fitted. Therefore the front hub spindle hole in the solders were bored out, so they will now not fit the standard front wheels. They were being produced at one time, and the so called company that had some spare, mucked me about for so long i never bothered with them. I managed to get one from the USA, and i had some spare front forks so i used them for my other project. Norvil and the AJS & MOC, did have them, at one time so may be they might be making them again.

Hello Anthony, thanks for your reply a few people have suggested modifying a standard AMC slider by welding the extra lug on but I dont really want to go down that route.

The other option is to change the forks completly to long roadholders like the N15CS but that means changing the yokes & probably front brake ? I dont think you could run the standard AMC front brake with Roadholders

It would also be non standard then I will just have to keep searching

Thank-you

The odd thing about your comment to put the Roadholder front forks on the P11 is that it has already been done. If you look very carefully at Mike Patrick's desert racer the one that held the number one plate in the desert 121013 this has Roadholder front forks on it. I missed it when i first saw that picture. Mike tried Italian Ceriani front forks on his 1963 Norton Atlas Scrambler, that held the number one plate in 1964, and he told me that those forks nearly killed him. He went back to the Roadholder forks with the G80CS fork internals, and they worked so much better. From what i have been told that to fit the Roadholder front forks to the P11 frame the head stock will with have to be machined to accept the Roadholder type top and bottom yoke bearings. I bought many years ago a head-stock from a P11 frame that had been converted to take Roadholder top and bottom yokes. This had been machined out to take those bearings. You may be lucky and find a pair of those double lugged fork sliders. You could also try to get your ones refurbished and re-polished. The internals you may be able to get re-sleeved as i am sure i saw a company doing this for Roadholder sliders.

Ok Anthony thanks for getting back to me, I found the picture on the P11 facebook site of Mike's bike. I wonder why he changed from the orginal AMC comp forks to roadholders just a better fork I assume.

I think I will just have to keep searching for the correct sliders as changing the complete front end is becoming a bit of a headache

Many thanks Rob

I can only assume that Mike and ZDS Motors thought that the Norton Roadholder front forks were superior to the AMC Teledraulic forks for off road use. The Mike Patrick P11 front forks did have different internals, as he explained what they had inside when i contacted him about that bike, and his desert racing career.
