Some RAC Bikes were painted that Blue , but as Gordon says probably not general issue. After a check I would say thats a definate, I also now remember turning up at Myers Motors and seeing a heap of dismembered Blue RAC bikes. Mostly sidecar tugs. What sort of loon would want a blue bike? ,Manxman anyone??. Google Norton ES2 RAC images, Notice the featherbed with sidecar AND engine enclosure (Avon I think) Probably RAC historic collection ,my 99DL had this in the 60's, not seen now at all.

Hello well name calling in this club is banned I do not call anyone such names so why you and the De-lux model 99 was in Dove Grey and Blue and therewas a political and national pride reasons for the Norton Manxman 650 to be painted in brightpolychromatic blue metallic this was to do with hands across the sea, a union with the unitedstates and Nortonmotorcycle sales the records states that the Norton Manxmansold like hot cakes, but was limited to their dealerships by Berlinermotors and was admired by the USA riders and was on the race track in a fash first outing april 1961 pebble beach a win their harley's could not catch it, then Sunset Motors, And John Gregory got one and it was fittted in a chromolly frame for drag racing on its back was Tom Christenson on the first drag race out, he won all the races of the day but the last race was up against a Vincent black shadow, there was TC and that Black shadow, the light went green the guy on the vincent missed his gear Tom Chistenson was gone blew off the vincent!! So TC won the hole lot that day, that's how the Hogslayer was born out of a Norton 650 Manxman motor, So never slag of a Norton Manxman 650 these were the best Nortons ever made even better then today's machines, and has a race bike their incredible speed for a pushrod 650 they hit well over 150mph on the racetracks Pual Dunstall saw to this, with Dave Downer as rider he beat the king of brands Derick Minter on a Manx Dohc 500

the Norton 650 started as the Manxman ended as a 650ss and on to 1970 as a 650 Mercury there as never been a better line of Norton motorcycles made, the 650 was a winner from day one, the 750 Atlas did not do much better, but its major strength was in the Dirt bike racing and drag racing here endeth an iconic part of history, that will never be repeated Ps that'swhy today the Norton Name is iconic British stamped thought its frame like Blackpoolrock and known world wide, and long may our Norton name live on so fly the flag with british pride, and I am very lucky and very privlaged to own such an iconic Norton has the Norton 650 manxman yours Anna J

Hi Anna, you need to develop a sense of humour, The 60 99 was not dove and Blue. It was any of 3 or 4 colour combinations that included the blue. After 60 they then standardised . My 99 started life red/dove , as did many others.

My 1955 Norton Model 88 is was originally Norton Polychromatic Blue, which is a rather unusual watery silver with a hint of blue in it. Not a very common colour scheme. There were lots of blues used by Norton from the mid '50s to late '60s
