Norton model 50 regulator RB107

Forums

I am back on to my restoration project after a 3 year pause! This was my late father's bike and it has not been on the road for over 40 years, I must get it finished in order to ride it this summer.

Besides a general clean up, what should I need to consider withbringing theregulator back to life?

Thanks

Hi Martyn,

I would recommend gutting the old relays out of your regulator case & install the Dynamo Regulators electronic regulator. I use these exclusively and after testing it against others on the market, I feel this is the best. I rebuild dynamos & magnetos for others & have had no issues with this unit at all!

Who said it is dead?..you don't know yet...Smile

I would fit a new 6V fully charged battery (you will need one anyway) and run the bike. Measure the voltage at the battery terminals with the bike running at medium revs. You should ideally see 7.25 volts if the reg is working properly, hopefully not higher (overcharging) and not much less (undercharging) Should you get figures very different you might just get away with tweaking the voltage adjustment screw to get nearer the optimum voltage. Otherwise if this fails then follow the full procedure as per this Lucas manual:

Otherwise if you are busy, and can't be bothered, buy the DVR2 regulator... it works well. However there is a lot of pleasure getting the original parts to work again....Good luck.
