NOC events

I'm looking for some runs to do this year and was wondering what the NOC has to offer? I'm looking for predominantly riding rather than showing the bikes. Would the National Rally in Norfolk work for this? Im interested in hearing people recomendations.

I am also wondering if the local sections offer any evening or day runs. The Sussex section meets less than 10 miles from where I live but I can't see any mention of them doing anything other than meeting in the pub.

Surely it must be worth a 10 mile ride, to see what the Sussex branch are doing these days. Unless things have changed since the late 90's, when I was a member, it is worth the trip just to visit the pub.

For me branch nights are once a month 20 mile ride to have natter with with a bunch of like minded people- well worth the effort with the Oxford lads- plus we get a few rides out and other events every year.

If you want to ride the lenth and bredth of the UK to various rallies, or France, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Ireland, Norway, the USA, then the NOC will give you an incentive. There are plenty of people here who like to make miles.

Andy,

This web site has a comprehensive list of events that the NOC either runs or attends. As far as I know, it's pretty up to date on the main items.

As regards local events organised or attended by the NOC Branches, it is up to the respective Branch Secretaries to let me know and I publish the details on the site. In practice I receive notification of very few, maybe because most of them are too busy clutching a beer glass to bother or they are parochial and do not want outsiders at their events. I have given up asking.

Where a Branch has its own web site, its events list should make it that far, so you might have to do some trawling around to see what is on offer.

Hi Andy,

As one of those organising the National rally in Norfolk Iâm bound to say of course it will work for that & would highly recommend itwinksmiley

Seriously though, it will offer you the chance of a good ride from Sussex up to Norfolk, if you go West of the metropolis, itâs quite possible to make a nice scenic route mostly avoiding motorways if thatâs your bag, or you can just belt round the M25 & up the M11/A11 if you just want to get there quickly. For the rally itâs self, on the Saturday were having an organised ride to a local museum, where we will be putting on a bit of a display of the bikes, itâs your choice if you want to take advantage of the reduced entry fee & stay for a look round, or if you prefer, you can do your own thing & go for a ride & explore the area, there are some quaint little villages & scenery to be found & there will be Nfk branch members on hand to give you some ideaâs/directions. Saturday evening will consist of the usual feasting & entertainment, no doubt accompanied by the odd beer. Then on Sunday, subject to enough interest & sufficient people staying on, we will have some more ride outs to various places of interest, possibly including a visit to Englandâs only whiskey distillery. These will be on a DIY basis with directions/maps provided. Camping is available for Friday, Saturday & Sunday nights & itâs free to NOC members. Keep an eye on the Norfolk branch web site for further updates as we go along.

As others have said, on top of the National rally, the NOC & itâs branches organise many things during the course of a year so there should be plenty to ensure you donât have too many weekends with nowhere to go.

Hi Tim

Dont think I'd be dashing round the M25. I'll probably be on my 1950 ES2, or if I'm feeling brave my '34 inter. Is there normally a good mix of bikes on the rally?

The majority of bikes will be Commandos but there is enough of everything else to keep it interesting.

The people are mainly good.

NOC rallies are always worth going to.

Hi Andy,

Unfortunately circumstance's have dictated that I have not been able to attend the last couple of Nationals but the many I have attended in the past have attracted a good variety of models, not all of em Nortons. As Peter says, on the Norton front, Commando's make up the majority with Dommies a close second, but there is usually a good selection of singles, OHC models usually the rarest, so it would be good to see your Inter, your vintage being among my personal favourites, so I'll be quite envioussmiley

Unfortunately my inter has no real provision for carrying much luggage so if I where to ride there I'd probably have to come on the ES2, that is still in the process of restoration and I'm not sure if I'll finish it time to get some local miles on it before the longer run.

May have to defer this year and come next...

Tents, sleeping bags and mats, suitable for the British summer climate, are available in small, lightweight packages. With a bit of ingenuity you should be able to stow them on most bikes - don't forget your toothbrush.

I got my Roadholder today and the Norton Festival looks like a good weekend, but my only question is; What is a poker run? I've never come across this term before.

My Dad also had a read of the itinery andsaid it looked like a good weekend, only trouble is he doesn't have a Norton! Might have to lend him my ES2 if it's finished.

I hope to meet a few Nortons out on Sunday (May 4) on the VMCC Relay Rally. I don't want to feel too heavily outnumbered by inferior machines.

I shall be out on a Norton (of course) between one of the North East Section check points and East Yorkshire. Wonder if I see a 650 Manxman?

I'm planning numbers 34,69,63 and 7. West Kent round to Surrey. All being well... another 110 miles on the '37 16H. Hope the weather's up to it! All the best!
