Manx carb advice

Forums

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has used a different carb on a Manx? I'm running a 1953 longstroke (road legal) with kickstarter but the GP carb is tough work for reliable starting and road running. Any advice for alternative carbs would be appreciated.

Well Try out a 389 amal mono bloc 1.3/16ths 300 main jet

or a SU carburettor just need to change some jettiing

Have you checked out the adverts for the Tonkin Tornado? Maybe you can deduce what carb they are supplying?

I have run my Inter on a 10TT9 carb and this was fine, it starts and runs very well as long as you don't get stuck in traffic for too long, it will foul up the plug eventually. It also has no tickover but you get used to this, once the carb is set up properly its the only real draw back.

I have also run it on a concentric carb recently while the TT is with Martin Bratby and its brilliant, it starts firsrt kick, ticks over and will run perfectly throughout the rev range... Only trouble is it looks wrong on a 30's bike!

When I get the TT carb back I'll put that straight back on.

I've run my prewar Inter with both the correct 10TT9 and Concentric carbies and completely agree with Andy. Its a dream to start and idles perfectly with the Concentric but the original carbie looks so much better.

I have seen bikes with a small notch cut in the bottom of the slide (engine side) to allow a tickover supply of air to go through. Do you have a spare slide to experiment with?.
