Ouch!

I suggest try posting in 'electrical' to make sure the right people see it.

It looks like the first two numbers are the wrong way round! Unless you found it on the sea bed...

When you get a magneto back after rebuild, check it over very carefully. Among other things, that it will fire when properly warm, and that the two sparks are at the correct time. When I got mine done, I found out too late that I had been given someone else's mag, and it was 17 degrees out at the crank. The points cam was eccentric to the housing and bearing. The solution was a replacement points housing and ring. The two were concentric, but 20 degrees out at the crank. I got the cam ring reground, and it is now only 1.5 degrees out. Newly made brand new ones can be just as inaccurate.

Tony Cooper: +44 121 559 2405. Very nice chap, really knows his stuff, excellent prices and (at least the last time I used his services) not too long a waiting list.

I recently used APL Magnetos of Shaftesbury Dorset. 01747 852136. Refurbished an MS1 Magneto and adapted the dynamo to work with a regulator for £227. Bike hasn't been run much since refitting but all appears good. Posted both ways with Parcelforce with no problem.

Are Brightspark Magnetos any good? Their easycap units work a treat but I have no idea what the service side is like.

Hi Dominic, good morning!

I HAD MY DOMMIE 88 k2f mag checked cover and recon as necessary, armature was in good order so not rewound, very prompt service and the mag works perfectly.

Only problem they are now based in France -or were when I had it done in 2017! But the total cost was £124 including return postage.

If you check on line you should get his e-mail addres, his phone No is (33) 254570451. His name is Bill Brown

The mag was fitted with their external condenser

Good luck

I've spoken to the Brightsparks apparently one of the partners (Ken I think) passed away and (apologies but I've forgotten the chaps name) said he can still rebuild Magnetos but he lives in France so not easy to send to him....the Magneto Guys can't do anything for at least 6 months (Pah!)

I too would recommend APL at Shaftesbury. He rebuilt a mag on my (now sold) AJS Model 30. After running low on fuel, it took me 3/4 hour to kickstart the AJ and after getting it home, there was no start at all. My local British bike guru, Dave Massam, sent it to APL. After the rebuild, it felt like it started with a breath on the kickstart.

All of the replaced parts were enclosed with the refurbed magneto....including a rewind it was £200
