Magdyno - tight or slack wire

Forums

Good Morning Folks

I am trying to get to know my recently purchased ES2. I have an anti-clockwise magneto viewed from the drive side which gives a clockwise rotation from the points side. When the cable control lever is pulled open the "cam plate" rotates clock-wise also, this would seem to delay the opening of the points. Does this give me slack wire advance?

So pulling the lever retards the ignition - tight wire retard and therefore slack wire advance. The best way. Cable failing to fully advanced is better than failing to fully retarded. Also, tight wire advance can tend to gently retard as you are riding along and you wonder why the power is down and the engine is getting hot.

Many thanks Gordon. So I have slack wire advance, this now explains why my leg gets thrown in the air when starting with the lever in the wrong position.

Best Regards

Edward
