m40 garden gate frame enquirey

Forums

Just wondering if anybody out there has come across a gardengate m40 frame with two seat mount/tank support mounts fitted in tandem. Maybe to be able to move sear forward/back.

Yes - mine has the same set up - although not for the tank, just the saddle. Not sure why, some were fitted with Dunlop saddles, others with Terry's saddles. I'm pretty sure mine had the latter. Maybe they were made like this to fit whatever was available or the customer's preference.

Cheers.

Hi Jon.

The measurement is 7&1/2". The alloy stands you mention were fitted to 'works' machines. From what I can make out from the parts list pictures, the prodution Manx had a morelightlybuilt stand than the ES2 and isheld on by 2 bolts instead of the long through stud. Presumably they were cast iron/steel. I got mine from Ken McIntosh who casts them in bronze! When it arrived it looked like a yacht's anchor!!! He's got them listed at $232 which is about £128. This was less than what was being charged in the UK, when I was looking for one,and if I remember the postage wasn't too bad.

I see what you mean now. Is your manx dohc? It might be worth a look through the factory records as sometimes modifications, such as this, are listed - if you haven't done so already!

Ian.

I've just come across this photo on the net - quite by chance - while Googling 'the motor cycle magazine 1949 TT'. It shows a seat mount back in the position of your 'extra' one and a separate tank mount forward of it. Unfortunately the website (http://www.sh-dz.net/norton-manx-motorcycle-specifications.html), to which it is attributed, has no sign of the photo.

Regards,

Ian.
