Thank you to everyone that responded with potential sources of CB10025 (for Distributor 18D2) Contact Breakers for my 1959 Model 50. I have now found a set. During my search I was told by Distributor Doctor that they are currently making 1000 sets, of high quality, to be available in 3 to 4 weeks. So, just passing on this information.
Cheers,
Mike

I think that the 18D1 distibutor uses the same points as the 18D2, but with a different cam and cap.

Hi All,
in '59 Norton used the 18D1 for the Model 50 & the ES2, the 18D2 was used on the "88" & "99" models. Both distributors used the Lucas 42519 contact set, with the 42178 condenser.
Looking forward to the Dist. Dr. stocking the points!

This site shows a link although no stock.
I think WW10025 is also an equivalent Lucas part number.

Are these WW prefix numbers not a Wassell code (and as Wassell now own the Lucas trademark....) but they're not really 'original'.

Agreed will probably not be as manufactured in the 50s/60s/70s but the closest match I could find. 'Original' would need to be 'new old stock' or used.
If anyone knows of links to older Lucas parts lists that include any of the contact breaker numbers being discussed that would help.
Any info I provided on this thread and the earlier one are based on the web sites I referred to.
Wassell certainly supply modern Lucas branded parts but the WW part numbers look to be modern Lucas ones rather than a Wassell code. See e.g.

'Lucas Classic Motorcycle…
'Lucas Classic Motorcycles' is Wassell. I think that this is where the confusion comes from. The Sadler Road Lincoln address is Wassell's
The Brightsparks Magnetos site has a comprehensive library of old Lucas catalogues. 42519 is the only number that I can see there but back in the day, Lucas consistently altered numbers and parts and not always together !

Ok well spotted. So Wassell is Lucas in this case. I also agree that Lucas numbering can be challenging!
The question I think we are trying to answer is: 'Is CB10025 equivalent to 42519 and is the latest Lucas equivalent from Wassell WW10025 the same or at least compatible, i.e. a working equivalent, for distributor type 18D2?'
I cannot better the links I have posted here and in the earlier thread. Over to someone for 'chapter and verse'...

The question that I think we are trying to answer is: 'Is part number CB10025 equivalent to 42519, is this compatible with the Wassell Lucas part WW10025 and will this work with distributor type 18D2?'

in '59 Norton used the 18D1 for the Model 50 & the ES2, the 18D2 was used on the "88" & "99" models. Both distributors used the Lucas 42519 contact set, with the 42178 condenser, which are the correct Lucas part numbers for Mike's '59 Model 50.
Wassell does sell the 42519 contact points & reference both the Lucas OEM numbers & their own numbers on their website, usually starting with WW. If you buy genuine Lucas items (made to exact Lucas specs, or better) it will come in a green box with the correct Lucas part number & if bought from Wassell, may (or may not) have the WW letters depending on the part.
As to the WW10025 number, it is the Wassell number for a set of contacts for the later 18D2 & 18D1 distributor from 1958-1962. It is not available from Wassell currently, and when it was, WAS NOT a genuine Lucas item. I would imagine, they will be available from Lucas at some point, so I doubt Wassell would bring in an aftermarket set (just my opinion).
Here is the line item from Wassell (I am a distributor):
WW10025 CONTACT SET - Norton,TriumphFits Lucas 18D2 Distributor for most British Twins (1958-62), including :-Norton 50,ES2,88 Dominator Coil,99 Dominator, Triumph 5TA,T100A,6T.Applicable condensor is Lucas 54410823(WW10040).Coil application : WW19375OEM:425219
So, if a distributor still had some old Wassell stock , they may use the Wassell number WW10025, or they may make up their own variant, such as contact points bought from Wassell may start with "CB" for contact points & Wassell part number WW10025, combined to make CB10025?
In the case of the vendor "Green Spark Plug Company" they start their part number with GS, so for this set of contact points they use GS10025
GS10025 - CONTACT SET -Norton,Triumph Fits Lucas 18D2,for most British Twins
Sadly, they are also out of stock
As an American distributor for Brightspark, I of course also use their website for reference info, go the their website & click on the "Library" tab for the info you may need. It is an awesome free service!

Hope this helps!

Don't think the model 50 used the 18d2 ,if not then the cb10025 points won't be any use to Twin owners.
