Lucas Contact Breakers

Forums

Can anyone help ? I have bought everything I need to convert my 1959 Model 50 to 12 volts, including a new alternator, but I can't find anyone who has a new set of Lucas CB10025 Contact Breakers. The old ones are to worn to function efficiently any longer. This tiny part is holding up the completion of the job.

I bought a set a few years ago at the now defunct Murton Auto jumble. They were new and in a sealed Wassell packet. I suggest you try wassell.

Lovely bike the Model 50, enjoy.

Worth trying this supplier http://www.classic-bike-shop.com ?

CB10025 are described as fitting 18D2 distributor on this site http://www.norbsa02.freeuk.com/goffyelectrex.htm (although out of stock)

Classic bike shop has 18d2 contact set here:

Also this supplier assuming 425219 is equivalent.

Check with supplier first.

Hope this is clear and helps.

Mike,

I had another thought while out cutting the grass. Assuming your engine is a 59 alternator model (59-63) you could consider doing away with the points and fitting a Boyer replacement electronic ignition unit. I bought mine from RGM. The unit will replace the distributor or mag (Same fixings) and they don't look out of place.

While you are at it you could include a Boyer power box too. This would mean that if your battery or fuse failed the bike would keep running. The tell tale is that the ammeter would be bypassed and therefore show no reading. I have this set up on my poor man's Manx as the small battery is difficult to access.

Thanks Andy. So far I've established that Wassell & Goff Electrics don't do these points. I'll try the others you suggest.

Thanks Neil. I may well go down this route in the future. For now I've just bought a new alternator and everything to switch to 12v, and I'm running out of money !
