A K&N filter is better than nothing .  But nowhere near as good as a properly designed pleated  paper filter.

The stats for the K&N air filter shows it is the best filter for getting extra power from any engine as well cleaning the air and it has a one million mile guarantee. It is also the best for stopping dirty air being injested by your engine. In the David Vizard book, Building Small Block Chevy's on a Budget, David did a test with all the other air filters on the market, from the standard to other competater's and the K&N came out the best by a huge margin. I have a K&N air filter in my Commando, my P11A Ranger 750's, as well as 14 inch air cleaner on Camaro's small block engine. They are also used by Rolls Royce.

It has been proven that the K&N air filters are the best, and it has been proven on race cars and bikes. Rolls Royce only fit the best, and they use K&N. All the test done show that an engine using a K&N air filter will give better air cleaning properties that any other make of air cleaner. They also give a good power increase. This can be a lot on a 350 ci engine. A K&N air cleaner you can clean, then re-oil it and then reuse it, and this is a plus for an air cleaner, as it is re-useable.

We seem to have gone off track.  I am  full of admiration for those that can build a Chevvy big block or RR phantom motor into a featherbed and still manage to find room for a properly boxed K&N air filter. I am talking about what turns up at the average  cafe or club meeting  with a Soggy ,mud spattered appendage to the Amal carb.
