Its been half a century since I looked at a twin mag. I think the self extracting thread on the unit has stripped . I can buy a new one on E_BAY but no idea how to dismantle . Luckily the mag is a spare ,but I would like to get it ready for when the old dissy disintegrates and explodes (which they do!). Whats the trick?.

Dismantling
Once the ATD has been freed from the shaft the centre bolt should come out through its top. When the centre bolt thread is good this is achieved by it simply self extracting from the main body. See photos.

For some reason mine does…
For some reason mine does not. The extractor thread must be mangled and preventing it. Would help if someone could describe the method of releasing the ATD from the mag,just in case its been slightly damaged ,I may be able to force it. But not if I go about it the wrong way.

After a bit more research it appears A press is needed (a few tons!) to remove the collar.
