Jubilee layshaft bush

Forums

Hello I have the older gearbox in my jubilee, I have used loctite on the lay shaft bush, seeing as the engine is stripped I thought now is a good time to pin it as well, do the later gearboxes pin the bush from the inside or the outside. I was thinking of drilling the edge if the bush and casing on the inside and tapping it out to allow so small grub screw to be fitted. Anyone that has done similar could you please give me some advice.

Cheers Kelvin

I had a look today - it is pinned from the inside, diagonally into and through the bush, or at least the one on my Navigator cases is. I forgot to take a pic will try to remember tomorrow!

What I done on my Jubilee was drilled a 1/16" hole in the flange of the bush through into the casing. Then cut the shank off the drill slightly shorter than the depth of the drilled the hole. Fitted the cut drill shank int the hole and centre punched the bush around the hole to stop it coming out.

Hello there,

I had a look at a spare gearbox case but like Dan's it is missing the bush. Around the perimeter of the bush area you can see than someone had cenre punched the original bush around the outer edge.

I would think that locktite is sufficient by itself provided you keep the gear box full of oil. The lay shaft is very high up in the gearbox and if the oil level is allowed to fall even slightly the bush runs dry and so seizes. Maybe I'm just an optimist (or idle) but I have never had any trouble so far.

More opinions are definitely worth having though especially when you already have the box down in bits..

Hello I have taken the belt and braces approach and I have drilled the edge of the bush and into the casing and fitted a small tension pin, so job done.

Thank you for all the advice.
