James Lansdown Norton info

Hi Folks

I have been asked to post this by a friend.

A Canadian member of the Norton Club has found James Nortons very overgrown grave in Birmingham, Selly Oak and is trying to get his grave restored. He fathered five children who all emigrated after his death. One did in fact join the Norton factory but was ousted by the subsequent Norton management. Before the grave can be restored we need to get permission from any family survivors and the Birmingham Salvation Army have asked me to look into it.Does anybody know of or have information about any family members, Nephews, Cousins or whatever.

Back in the 1980s, the club was in contact with James' last surviving daughter (I think that it was Grace and she was living on Malta).

The grave was in a very poor state at the time and presumably permission was granted by the family as it was restored by Suffolk Branch member John Green (who was a stonemason).

Of course, this was thirty-odd years ago now.

It may well be that there is still correspondence in the club records. It was certainly mentioned in 'Roadholder' at the time
