International - Crankcase Oil Unions

Forums

Hello all,

At the rear of the crankcase on my 1948 International are two oil unions, which screw into the case and to which the oil lines from the tank connect. These are both shown in the Parts Book as B22 (A11/721), "Crankcase oil delivery or return pipe union", suggesting to the naive that they are identical. But on my bike, for whatever reason, the two are not identical. One has an internal bore of 1/4", the other 9/32". Is the larger one for feed or return?

Cheers,

Dave

OK, seeing that both oil lines terminated in a 5/16" fitting, I just bored out the smaller union to 9/32" - now they match. It is a bit unclear how the two sizes came to be on the bike in the first place, though.
