Inlet camshaft bush

Forums

Hi Guys - finally getting round to curing the excess of oil in the mag drive casing by replacing the inlet camshaft bush. I've watched Mike Pemberton's excellent DVD on dismantling the ES2 engine but unfortunately it does not specifically mention this bush. Can I safely assume it is removed by heating the timing cover and driving the bush out?Cheers, George

Give Mike Pemberton a call to see what he says.... Previously George Phillips wrote:

I emailed him, Mike, and got an almost instant response. "Hi George, No, bronze will expand at the same rate as the alloy. Just press it out! Regards Mike "What a top guy!!

Not strictly true George. Aluminium does have a slightly higher coefficient of thermal expansion than bronze so will expand faster. But the two materials are pretty close compared to say, steel and aluminium so in reality heating the case will not make much of a difference when pressing the old bush out.

I would however warm the aluminium up in an oven to press the new bush in. As the bush will still be at room temperature (or even colder if you put it in the freezer, probably not necessary at this time of year) the hot case will expand and make it go in a lot easier.

Good luck

Andy
