Indicator/ footbrakelight problem

Forums

Hi there,

I have a small problem with the above mentioned items, which I try to solve since the International in Sweden. While using the indicator to the right direction all works fine, but if I`m using the footbrake pedal in this situation the indicator blinking turns into permanent light.

What did I do? Looking at all connections in the rear part of the Commando, using a new brakelight switch as well as a flasher relais. The indicator switch at the handlebar is fine and new earth connections did not give success. The left side indicators work as they should. Even if I use the footbrake.

Has anybody an idea?

Regards Uwe

Hi Uwe. The first thing that I would check is earthing (ground). Try running a new earth wire from the right hand indicator preferably to a point where you are sure there is a good earth.

Thamks Tim. I will try it, but  think,  did it already last year. There were a lot things I`ve tried, so it is not so easy to sort it out.

Cheers Uwe

If your battery voltage, or voltage at indicators, is low they stop flashing. If the battery is good you may just have a bad connection somewhere.

As others suggested, a bad earth can cause problems too. Not just for indicator but rear light too.

Uwe,

After studying the 1972 wiring diagram I would check the master switch (ignition and lighting switch) as connection 2 supplies the rear brake stop switch and the handlebar indicator switch.  I know this should also affect the left hand indicators as well!

My master switch on my Mk3 Commando gave problems with ignition and lighting.  It may be possible to link connection 1 to connection 2 on the master switch to see if this sorts out the fault.  This would then prove if the switch is faulty.

Phil.

The battery is okay, otherwise it should effect even the left side indicators Ian.

This could be an issue Phil. I did not sort it out. Its still the swedish problem...

Regards and thanks for your advices

Uwe

There is a obviously a miss connection between the RHS indicators and the stop light. Using the stop light on its own might just bring on continuously the RHS indicators. Look very carefully at the rear connections for indicators/stop light, and in the head light if you have a front stop light switch.
