Is there a louder horn that could be fitted in the normal position?

I need one anyway.

... a couple of Fiamm type horns either side of the coil brackets. As the Commando seemed to be built around the horn and required almost total dismantling to remove it I left the old defective one in place.....Horns

I left my sad squeak box in the old position disconnected and have an air horn sitting in front of the black airbox under the carbs.

Ian, your "As the Commando seemed to be built around the horn...." reminded me of a comment years ago at a Jaguar Owners Club meeting, in describing how the XJ6 Jags were built at Coventry:

"First, suspend the heater matrix 2 feet in the air....."

Having rebuilt XK coupe’ and Mk2’s I still remember creating discreetly positioned holes in all manner of places to get to otherwise, total strip down fixings.  Maybe it made them less prone to “tinkerers”

This one from eBay is loud, the tone is good and the chrome is still good after 3 years.

I fitted it in front of the coils for maximum loudness ahead

Ordered one like your's Steve. I will be hiding it under the battery tray, which I had recently sprayed & just dropped. Removed paint from the only part that can be seen when on the bike. Oh well, more pratting around.

I have had Fiamm air horns on the bike years ago. Had them where the air filter would have been & the compressor next to the battery.

I use old 6 volt horns on my older 12 volt bikes. Pretty shrill, and for their duration of use will not get harmed.  Tolerances on voltage were pretty loose in the day...

.. weren't air horns but the conventional type (very loud though!). My Commando actually did come with air horns fitted but there was a noticeable delay between pressing the button and any sound - probably inadequate wiring.
