Fractured numberplate

Not an everyday problem for those of you in the UK but I presume some of you will have the old pressed black/silver plates. Here in Germany the Numberplates are still pressed metal and the one on my 961 has fractured from the screw holes outwards. Has anyone got any good tips to avoid this happening again.

Thanks in advance

Dave

Thank you Richard, the other option I had considered was grafting on a third cylindersmiley

Actually, I suspect that road shocks with hardish suspension will cause problems for an unsupported plate. I think that I'd put a plate behind it, with some silicone to damp out the vibration. Not too heavy though or the bracket will suffer...

Depending on the surface area of contact that is available, you need not drill and screw the plate at all. Quite a small area is sufficient for you to silicone mastic a number plate to its mounting and it will not drop off.

Hmm, my 60 years old Dominator is still wearing it's original plate, so much for 21st century "high tech" engineering!

Thanks Richard and Chris.

The ubiquitious (particularly in the hands of the unskilled) 8th wonder of the modern world would seem to provide the solution.

John, your 60 year old plate was probably made of ex WD war surplus metal that was intitialy designed to resist armour piercing shot!

You could be right Charles. Sometimes I too need protection, from the flak resulting from some of my posts!
