Hi I have read a few of the replies to my question about ethanol proof additives. Some of the replies suggest it should be OK to leave the fuel in the tank. That is not the case. The factory told me it IS BEST TO DRAIN THE TANK IF LAID UP. Sorry I suppose that will raise another issue.
So the choice seems to be to drain or find a suitable additive!

Spot on Mark, this applies to most bikes and standard old Norton's even more so.
Use Esso Synergy Supreme + 97 RON (Red label not blue) then you won't have a problem.
This fuel is not available in Scotland, Teeside (A wide area all the way down to Ripon inc) and Devon & Cornwall SW.
Good luck.

Just one point, Roger: I think you said in your original post that you live quite away from your nearest pump E0. Draining would be the solution for long periods of lay up, a pain in the butt but safest option if using E5.
There is no certain answer as to how long E5 will keep (Shelf life) and then if the stabiliser (Eg Millers anti ethanol) will extend this life, so perhaps not a good idea to store this fuel. I can tell you from experience that E0 fuel, whether leaded or not is certainly good after two years. Gordon J has an even better experience with 4* leaded.
That's about it really.
