ES2 pushrods

Forums

Hi all

I have an ES2 500 engine from 1951 and I want to know the length of the push rods please as I suspect the ones in the engine are too short. I am finding it difficult to get my slim tappet spanner on the push rod top flats through the opening in rocker box as they seem to be too low and are barely visible.

Thanks, John.

Greetings from Nova Scotia,

A friend in Oz saw your post and offers this reply:

"Someone on the NOC is asking about ES2 pushrod lengths, sounds in a bitof a pickle (if you are still in the NOC ?).Mine are both steel 9 & 3/4", with adjustment."

Also, as soon as Mother Nature permits me to get into my garage Iwill be able to measure the rods from my'48 ES2 if you need further confirmation.

Cheers,

Bryon

I use a bicycle cone wrench (spanner) which is very thin to access the very narrow flats on the lower part of the pushrod end fitting. These are inexpensive (oftern not sufficiently heat treated and soft - be cautious about the quality) and my be ground or filed out to fit the Whitworth size flats. I may be wrong but I believe that the flats are 0.525", please check this it is the size for 1/4" W. In my case I had access to a carbide end mill which cut the material very easily.

Good luck, Geoff
