ES2 parts search

Forums

Hi all, sorry I have not been on here much updating the rebuild of the '39 ES2. I am just getting back on with it, and going through the bits and pieces now finding things which I should have sorted a long time ago. The wheels are nearly ready for rebuilding, but I have discovered one of the bearing locking rings is missing. Does not matter front or back, they are both the same thread, and also need a new front wheel spindle as mine has a knackered thread half way down.

Now I have found that the various specialists all seem to stock different things, RGM, RacingNorton, the owner's club shop etc, but none list these items on their websites. In your experience do any of them stock things they don't list ? I didn't want to spend all day yesterday on pointless phone calls, any recommendations ? I have found a guy who makes a whole new front spindle complete with nuts, all in stainless, but he is in Aus !

Nortons don't seem to have a one-stop shop like other makes, can anyone point me in the right direction ?

Thanks, Tony.

I'm afraid we can't expect to get everything off the shelf, where would the fun be in that?! Have you tried Russell motors in London?

I think that the lockring is the same part right up to the dominator.

Andover sell them as part number 067615

26tpi lockring with peg holes. They changed to 20tpi with the commandos wheels.

The dominator rear wheel spindle may be a good place to start for the front spindle but might need modification.

Hi guys, many thanks fore the tips, I'll check out the lockring specs and Dommi wheel spindle.

Hadn't thought of Russell's, I guess I will have to spend some time tomorrow on the blower.

Dan, one man's 'fun' is another man's stress..............

If you are set on a stainless steel wheel spindle, please be very, very careful.

'Normal' grade stainless is not up to the stresses and strains of critical parts like wheel spindles and head bolts, so you need to select the correct high tensile grade.

Most of the lower cost 'bargain' items you will find are not correct, and in my opinion would be bloody dangerous for critical areas like this. Fine for your run-of-the-mill fasteners and dress-up parts.

The only person I would trust to supply the correct grade items would be Andy Molnar at www.manx.co.uk

There is a guy advrtising on e bay that manufactures stainless spindles. Contact him for a price of one custom made.

Its not hard to make there must be a precision engineer near you that can make what you want surely, yes it will cost but will save you hundreds in bloody phone bills!

Have Russells simply sold most of their NOS for the singles or have they actually disposed of it in one go (Not to Bantam John...Please no...)
