Silly question no.1; are the small brackets on the sealed beam unit for holding the "W"clips? Silly question no.2; which side of the sealed beam unit do the spring prongs on chrome rim go - in front or behind? George

Hi George, the small bracket on sealed beam (near the top)is to locate it in between the two prongs on the chrome rim, to stopthereflectorfromvibrating around. The prongs therefore go behind to do the locating. This keeps the top of beam at the top. The 'w' clips are equallyspaced anywhere around the rim andI like to put in at least 5.

Thanks Paul. What confuses me is the fact that the there are several brackets round the reflector on the sealed beam unit. So what are the remaining ones for? It could be that this particular unit fitted most of the fifties British bikes so it was a sot of "universal" fitting? George

They weren't only fitted to bikes. A lot of British cars used them too. The original mini for one. So they were widely used.

If this is the traditional 7 1/2 headlamp unit then they were fitted to a lot of the Reliants through the 70s as well.
