ES2 fuel taps

Forums

Hi Just recently purchased a 1953 Es2 and i think the fuel taps are wrong. The ones on it are alloy that turn, should they have the brass ones that pull in and out.

Cheers

Hi Andrew,

They should be push/pull typeeither Enots or C.M.C.

There are two sizes and the slightly smaller is the one you are looking for. You'll also need to create a link pipe between the two sides of the tank.

The attached picshows amore or less original setup apart from the pipes both of which have been replaced a very long time ago. The timing side of the tank has a domed nut directly underneath the banjo fitting.

Technically they should be plated but this has long worn off.

Hi Jim,

Thankyou for your information i can now get on and get them changed. Its a great bike have been out on it most nights this week , today i got a slow puncture on the back and ive just repaired it tonight actually without taking the wheel out ,only took me about half an hour to fix. The more i use it the better the gearbox is selecting , its been stood for a long while and run up occasionally

Cheers

Don't like the look of those. Would be inclined to peruse EBay or auto jumbles and recondition them, also would look more in period with your bike. John

PS my 52 ES2 tank is treaded 1/4 BSP

Gents,

Please see the attached photo. I have cobbled together a pair of taps from an assortment of bits, They are pretty old and so in keeping with the oily rag condition of the bike. My problem is the brass thread (attached on the tap at the top, unscrewed on the one below) that screws into the tank is too big (three eighths?) and I need quarter inch BSP. If anyone can assist in finding the correct brass thread adaptor that would be much appreciated. I have scoured the internet without success. It does not help that I do not know what thread size the fine threads on the tap are.

On a seperate query would the connecting tap originally have been rigid copper pipe or some sort of flexible pipe?

Many thanks for any assistance.

Best regards

Dave

What it looks as though you need are a couple of brass 1/4 x 1/8 BSP bushes; available from any plumbers merchant or hydraulics supplier eg. Hydroscand.
