ES2 fuel tap wahers

Forums

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what the internal washers are made from in the fuel taps on my 1955 ES2. These are the washers that the push-pull mechanism slides across to line up or close the holes in them. They look like leather but difficult to tell because now are mostly dust. I'm assuming I will have to make some, I doubt I can buy some.

Many thanks,

Alan

Can you post a photo of the fuel taps in question?

Over the years it is possible that a previous owner has changed the taps from what was originally supplied.

You could have the round bodied Ewarts type which use cylindrical pieces of cork or something else.

When you fit the new corks, immerse them in boiling water for a few minutes. This makes them very soft and pliable.

For the round bodied Ewarts taps, I found it was easiest to cut the cork longitudinally on one side to avoid forcing it over the locating lip.

Thank you Mike. Hope I've done this correctly and it reaches you.
