ES2 chrome tank paint

Forums

Hi

I posted a request last month to see if anyone could upload photos with a scale of a early 50s ES2 chrome tank so that my painter can do an accurate job as possible. I havent received any replies and the tank is gathering dust. I would really appreciate your help on this. Many thanks

Went through the agonies of indecision last year. Just now I Googled '1953 Norton' on 'images' and lots come up. But unless someone knows different you aren't likely to get a scale. There are some general trends - the Inters seemed to have a tear-drop shaped side painted panel and the SV and OHV singles had a panel with the rear edge shape fitted about 1/2 inch from the knee grip. But they all seem to be a bit different. Sometimes the knee grip wanders a bit over the panel - so it looks like the factory painters did them quickly by hand. So newly painted ones are maybe more carefully set out than the originals.Bacon's 'Norton Singles' says 1/2" black line until 1952 when the lines on road models went to 1/4". The thin red line would have been whatever the lining brush produced that day - approx 1/8", maybe less.

Hi Will

I have just joined the group. I have a 1951 ES2 and I basically copied a design I found on the net - that was about 12 years ago. I believe it conforms quite well to what was done in the factory. From my readings, I believe that because they were hand painted, no two are identical. I cannot tell you the exact colours as I simply chose a nice light silver / metalic grey. I am happy to email you some photos of my tank but will have to wait for daylight and after work. my email is rossluff@wirefree.net.au

Cheers

Ross
