From an earlier thread, Tom:

32 lbs/sq inch torquesetting for Model 50 & ES2 head bolts. These figures taken from Mike Pemberton's excellent DVD on stripping and rebuilding theSingle OHV engine.Mike starts at 24 lbs/sq inch and tightens them in increments of 4 lbs/ sq inch. The DVD is welrecommended and available fom NOC shop.

Hope this helps.

George, your units are for pressure, rather than torque! Do you mean lbs.ft?

Tommy. You need to reply in a separate post, not by editing your first one. Stuff will get missed that way.

The problem with using capitals is that it gives the appearance you are shouting at us, which is not good. TBH I can't see how it helps you, as the key pad is the same size whether the caps lock is on or off!Laughing Most of us are getting on a bit you knowWink

Quite right, Tom. I didn't check. But on the other hand I merely cut and pasted it from an earlier thread. I presume the originator meant 32 ft lbs

I've looked in every maintenance book I have (4 or so) on Norton singles and none of them gives a torque setting for the cylinder head bolts. They all say to tighten down "firmly and evenly". So do just that. You don't have to put a 3 ft jack handle on the spanner. The size of the spanner itself will give an idea of ow much torque is expected.
