Electric Roller Starter

Forums

Has anyone used an electric roller starter to save kick starting the bike? Which have you used?

Thanks Roger

HI Roger  Since my heart attack I use a Stuart Tonge starter sold by Banx Race Paint phone 07599 957227 . email banxracepaint1@gmail.com  It is driven by a tooth belt and both rollers are driven which is a good point.

I have a 230V starter from https://www.motorradstarter.de/ Twin chain driven double conical alloy knurled rollers. Angle grinder as motor. On most bikes don't blow a 10 Amps fuse, though I usually plug it in a 16 A outlet.

Mostly used on races. Works flawless on the Manx if you pull the bike back on compression first. Had a slipping problem once in heavy rain, though started with mechanic putting more weight on the rear. Also use it at home for test rides on the road bikes. No problem with Velo, Vincent and the Victor specials. Drawback is of course that you only can use it at home. On longer trips still have to use the kickstart. When on the starter, a 2 by 4 under the side stand. Important to find a starter that is easy to get the bike up on the starter, low height and maybe a ramp. Happy with mine, works single handed.
