Drain Tank

Hi has anyone drained the fuel tank. The factory said remove tank and drain. All went well until I tried to remove the black fuel pipe from the red elbow coming off the pump. I cannot see how it comes off, I have pulled it and looked on an American website that said press a clip and remove pipe - just like that. I can only see what looks like a cable tie but using a small electrical screwdriver I stopped when it looked like it might give up. The tank is now ready to remove but I don't want to ruin that black pipe.

Can anyone help?

you will see a clear picture of the fuel pipe connector - you just need to push it in (I used my thumbnail) and pull the elbow - it should come off (with a little bit of petrol spilt) - Alan

Thanks again Alan, worked a treat. I suppose rather than keep draining I should finsd an additive to combat the dreaded Ethanol.

Hi Roger - glad you got your tank off safely and didn't damage the red outlet pipe - for the last few years, I have used Ethanolmate all the time adding it to Premium petrol which I believe has a good chance of zero ethanol up here in Yorkshire (Jet, Murco etc coming from Immingham) - I don't drain either the 961 or 850 tanks during winter but they are probably only stood for 3 months - Alan
