Dominator noise

Hello,

My '61 Dominator has developed a metallic clacking noise when I roll it over through the kick start rotation cycle. Once it starts up and is running, I don't seem to hear any other noises in that area. I read several forum topics on Domi noises; (cam bearings, bent push rods, Domi pre-death sounds, etc.), and I'd appreciate any advice prior to digging too deeply into it.

Something adrift in the gearbox? gear selection OK? What if you select 1st gear and push the bike Iignition off)- do you still get same noise?

I wonder if it is just not going cleanly into neutral? The other worry might be something odd in the timing case...one of the chains or cam nut possibly?
