Dominator De Luxe enclosure

Hi

I have posted a wanted add as I need a full set of enclosures for a 61 slimline 99.

Any description of the two types? of pressing?

Also can anyone confirm if enclosures for other models fit? ie Jubilee rear panel.

Thanks Chris

Hello there,

The Jubilee/Navigator rear panel is reputedly the same as on the Dommi but I can't confirm this for cetain. The pressing is almost certainly the same but the mounting holes might be different. The side panels are different.

These panels are deperately rare - so you need a lot of luck and much money !. There was one Dommi side panel on Ebay a month or so ago with an opening price of £100.

Hello Chris,

The NOC shop still lists a tail end ,the side panels are different, good luck with finding them.

Hi Chris, I have a spare tail unit from a 1960, this could be used but has the slots in the top for a clip down seat as used on the early bikes, I also have a RHS side panel . I would advise you to find a LHS panel FIRST! as these seem to be the most difficult part to get, the rear frame loop is a simple bit of tube ,Rear numberplate mounts are also special but are the same for all the DL bikes. If anyone has a tickler lever for sale or to copy I would be verry gratefull. The internal mudguard would be easy to make.

Hi Chris.

The panels are not interchangeable ,I have all three D/Ls and there is a big difference ,the Jubilee and Nav are pretty close but the Dommi is a long way off I have only ever seen one L/H side for sale at Stafford, and the guy wanted over £100 for it ,so good luck. Alan

Robert, have you tried NOCshop? They have ticklers in stock.

What i need is a tickler lever,i think there are lightweight ones somewhere but the dommy ones are different, never seen any for sale.

I'm confused. Do D/L Dommies have tickler levers? (Mine doesn't, nor indeed the need for one as the carb is outside the tinware.)

Hi Howard. As i said earlier i have 3 D/Ls and the carb on all is inside the casing ,so you have no access to it unless you take off the side panel, mine are all 1960 models. Alan

Its just about impossible to tickle the carb without a lever. Its certain that you have a non standard set up. I expect i will have to set to and make one from scratch. For those who have an interest in the history stuff,i have an early photo of a 99DL that i thought to be a prototype or pre-production bike, close study reveals tank badges different to the production ones and no slot provision for a tickler at all.

Bacon's 'Norton Twins' has photos on pages 43 and 47. It looks like they had different fairings for the original head (pg 43) and 'downdraft' head (pg 47). The later head version looks like Howard's ... and it looks like it makes the carb more accessible. So yet another Norton variation to make restoration even more difficult?

Thats most odd!, Is it possible that you have lightweight side panels fitted to a Dommy? .Seems to be the most likely explanation,Your carb set up is right. The side panels should conceal the carb and battery carrier. On balance ,even if its wrong i would keep it as it is as it will confuse the nit pickers (who me?) and looks ok anyway.

They're pukka Dominator panels - Lightweight panels have the lower Dzus fastener in a different place plus, of course, a slot for the tickler arm.

This is definitely not a Lightweight panel - al least it's different to the one on my 1961 Navigator. Maybe the design did change on later bikes.

Look again at page 43, you will see a side panel without a tickler lever slot and a tank badge with fixings like no other and an upstanding "N" on the tank badge that is a one off. Definately a factory prototype with some road milage on it.
