Hi, I have a 650SS 1964 fitted with a 1:1 tacho gear. I have problems with oil leaking through the gear and coming out of the cable. I have tried two different replica gears, with and without sealed bearing, but can't stop oil coming through. My older gear that broke did not leak.
Would appreciate any suggestions to solve this problem. Where to get good quality tacho gear? Modify engine breathing? Other?
Regards Jan H.

I had the same problem with a replica rev-counter drive. It leaked from the cable end and from the timing cover side of the timing cover. No matter what I did it still leaked and I even tried to fit a small oil seal atthe cable end but it did not work. My gear shift boot side was always covered in oil, and I could not figure out why till I saw where the oil was coming from.I had an original Smiths BG/1508/05 and replaced the pattern part with an original Smiths one and the problem went away, and I still do not have any leaks from both side of this rev-counter on my 33CSR. They just do not make parts like the originals any more.

Fitted a check valve as recommended from Les at Norvil. No oil leak from engine or tacho drive after that.
