Damper/stop plate set up

Forums

Just reassembled the front forks on my Dommie rebuild, The stop/damper plate under the headstock looks like it needs spacer under it where it bolts to the frame but I can't find a spacer in my box of bits from when I took the bike apart.

Although I took loads of photgraphs as I stripped it down there's not one that show this. The Manuals don't show it either.

Could someone kindly advise whether there should be a spacer here or not? thanks.

Yes a spacer, probably worth making one up as the standard one may not work out well after years of use and the odd accident.

Hello I used a Nut that'sall you need 1/4 Whitworthbolt and two nuts put one in has your spacer nut and do it up and then the one on the outside and do it up, the bolt head must be from inside the frame strengthening plate yours ANNA J

A nicely turned stainless steel distance piece looks much nicer Anna and they are pretty cheap to buy

Thanks for your replies, I have friend who will make me a nice little spacer for this.

Anna, I noted that the head of the bolt should be on the inside of the frame, as a matter of interest what is the rationale of that? Probably staring me on the face but I'd like to know. Thanks. Barry.

It simply sits between the plate and the frame to make up the distance. I would have one made up about an inch outside diameter and from memory about 5/16 inch thick.

There is a guy who makes a beautifully machined stainless steel plate for this purpose.
