Custom mufflers

HelloDoes anybody have an idea, where I could get custom or aftermarket mufflers for the Commando 961?The left one of my original and very tame stock pipes is quite tight (much tighter than the right one).I also have the accessory long open mufflers, but they started to get rusty underneath the chrome coating and now the right one's mounting broke because of the rust.As intermediate remedy I have now mounted the long open pipe on the left and the original one on the right side.The short open pipes are in contrary to the others made from stainless steel, but they are by far too loud at least for Swiss circumstances ...Another fact I am not happy about is that the long pipes touch ground first in curves.This is why I am looking for an other solution. Any ideas?

Hi Raphaelyou might try Campbell Custom Exhausts; John Campbell has made several systems for me over the years and I rate his work 10/10, good luck.Terry

I did order some from South Bay Norton.Be careful, the pictures shownon their webpageare the pipesof the old and discontinued system (Dominator Sport). Attached foto shows the look of them.

Not unlike the Norton ones a bit too easy rider for my taste what with the skyward attitude n all. ð?

Terry, you express exactly what my first impression was. The design of the pipe is like this because theupsweep angle is dictated by the same angle of the top back subframe.

I am getting used to the look and will have following advantages compared to the original pipes:

- all stainless steel, thus lower risk of corrosion

- better ground clearance

- distance between chain and right hand muffler is bigger, thus chain should not touch the muffler

I have a 3 week old 961 with the high horsepower South Bay Norton silencers. Highly recommend them if you are comfortable with the upswept look and are comfortable with some "sound". They require a remap code from the factory since they are higher flow.

They sound fantastic.

Matt Davis from SBN told me they produce 14 more hp.

Looks great!

Which kind and type of spark plugs are you using with the SBN-pipes?

I have now CR7EIX (iridium) and consider to try with the colderCR9EIX.

Do you know if ground clearance is better as before? My stock silencers touched ground in narrow curving.

I found the attached picture on the Motorcyclist magazine. The exhaust system including the middle part (probably de-cat because I can't see lambda sensors) does not look like the stock one. Personally I appreciate the look and prefer it to the SBN type.

Has anyone seen this system before or even has a clue where these exhausts are from and if they are available somewhere?Thank you for any helpful information.Raphael, SwitzerlandAttachments image-jpeg

It seems to me that the problem with the SBN silencers and pipes (and other makes as well) is the clearance required such that the rear axle can be withdrawn without having to remove one or the other silencers. The resulting kick-up looks strange to my eye.

Unfortunately the exhaust system shown in Motorcyclist seem to be a prototype and is therefore not available. It looks like chain clearance might be an issue anyway. But the look is great...
