commando speedo face replacement?

Forums

Hello everyone. I'm new to all this Norton stuff! I bought my dream bike, a fast back last year and I have just joined the club.

My bike does not have matching clocks on it so I would like to get a green spot speedo to match the tacho unit. I have found a NOS face on ebay in America. if I were to getthis I could keep the mileage I have on the clocks now.

What I don't know though is how easy the speedo is dismantle enough to replace the face, ie getting the unit out of the case and removing the needle.

Any advice folks? or anyone got a speedo that works for sale?

thanks Andy

You create splits in the rim in getting it off, a bodge is to reuse it as the clock holders will cover the splits up but the correct was is a new rim and then it is rolled on using a lathe or similar with pressure to compress the rubber seal enough so it functions correctly.

Thanks Chaps.

I think I might get in touch with speedo repairs and see how much they might charge. The web articles are very useful though thanks.

What I don't know how to do is how to remove the speedo from the bike. I know this may sound stupid but I've never done it and I don't want to damage or scratch anything ; so can someone tell me how to release the clocks from the holders?

Undo the cable from underneath, then if you look closely under the clock holder there will be two 2ba nuts, undo these and the clock will come out upwards. You can remove the fork cap nuts to allow more access but only undo one at a time as otherwise you will release the front fork springs and the front end will dive.

Nice one. I shall have a look at it later on. Makes life much easier when someone knows what they are doing!!
