Commando Mk.ll pillion footrests

Forums

The Pillion Footrests on my 1973 MK2 Commando touch the silencers on the bottom. They appear to be fitted correctly. I have the round type rubbers fitted, but have seen a different type that is waisted and flat along the bottom. Do I have the incorrect rubbers? or is there something more sinister going on here. Is this a common problem.

Hi Paul,

It may be that you have incorrect mounting brackets for the type of silencers that are fitted. The brackets are different for 'peashooter' type silencers as opposed to 'black cap' type. The low level type must also have different brackets. If the wrong ones are fitted, then the footrests will not be sitting correctly.

I wouldn't worry unduly Paul, when I switched from black caps to reverse cones (& associated hangers) I just sliced a littleoff the underneath of thefootrest rubber with a Stanley knife to ensure clearance (following the same plane as the 'silencer'), no one else has ever noticed.

Hi Paul

I've a 1971 Roadster which I've owned for 40 years. It has the original upswept peashooters. In the early days the rubbers didn't touch the silencers but over a period of time they did. I just assumed it was wear in the footrest pivots as I usually carry a passenger. To avoid the black marks on the silencers I also trimmed the underside of the rubbers.
