Commando fork tubes (stanchions) on long Roadholders?

Forums

Sorry for the blank post earlier.

I have a brand new set of Commado fork tubes & was thinking of using them in a set of long roadholders. I see the steel bush on the long roadholders is held in place with a hex bolt with a hole drilled through for the damper. The Commando fork tube uses a circlip to hold the steel bush in place, but how do I get the proper clearance around the damper without the hex bolt? The commando fork tube has no internal threads for the hexnut as the long roadholders do.

I saw a nice article in the April RH amout this topic, but I wont be doing the Landsdown treatment on this bike at this time.

Thoughts???

A friend of mine recently converted a 1947 Norton to Commando stanchions and dampers and vintage raced with them, it was pretty much a bolt-in conversion.

So if your current dampers bodies have different dimensions than those from a Commando, swap Commando damper bodies into your forks at the same time and put the original parts on the shelf you should be okay.

Of course with any parts swapping of different years you will have to put on your best engineer's hat and make sure everything works and clears with your suspension travel etc..

Hi Ben,

I had wondered about that, I am going to have a look at a set of commando forks this weekend to see whats what. Nick from Andover Norton mentioned that some people have made a press fit bushing for the commando tubes with an inside diameter appropriate for the original dampers, but has notactuallydone it himself, so cantconfirmor deny itswork-ability.

I'll keep everyone posted!
