Colour code for Dove Grey

Forums

I have a dominator 99 del luxe and am struggling with the paint colour for dove grey.

I know there is a colour chart on this website but it isnt really helping me.

My frame is being powder coated and I could do with a RAL colour. I know there is a BS381C colour Dove grey but even that I think is too dark. I have a RAL colour chart but I cant decide as there are a few lightgrey/ white colours.

Has anyone had experience of this before? Dove grey from the bikes I have seen is almost white?

Thanks

Matt

Hi Matt

I also have the same problem with Dove Grey, I was going to get a small can from RS paint (have a look at the web site they list the Dove Grey for the del luxe) and have a colour match. let me know how you go on.

Hope this helps Ian

Ian,

The frame has just been powder coatedin RAL 9002 - white grey. This was the closest colour they could get at the powder coaters.

I havent got it back yet butI will let you know the colour when I see it.

The problem is that I wanted it powder coated and then need to paintthe tinware so need an easy colour match, and RAL colours are easy and cheap to get hold of. If you start colour matching powderccoating and other paints it will start to get expensive.

Let me know also how your colour match goes.

Cheers

I just had a look on rs paints. They call it cream???? I wouldnt be too sure on cream. Its definitely a light grey/ white colour.

Also its pricey. I could probably get a RAL colour for 15 - 20 per litre maybe cheaperand rs sell it for 60??

It might be worth a test pot though.

Let me know how it goes.

The nearest I could get to dove grey for my jubilee frame is Rover Arabian grey, very close. Code GR31

A paint shop in Withington Manchester custom filled a couple of spray cans for me.

Seven years late - but better than never:

Confirm John Dunns posting....

The frame & lower side panels of De/Lux models (59/61-ish) are in Dove Grey - nearest now is British Leyland (or Rover) 'Arabian Grey'

I have to say that the correct grey is pretty drab, when I pained my DL I used a lighter more cream colour ,obviously not correct but no one seems to notice and it suits me.

That's what I did, get the smallest quantity from RS paint and had my painter match it. I had the colour codes but nobody here, in Canada, knew what they were. Nobody here is likely to know if my Dove Grey is the correct colour or not anyway so that's a plus!

Hi Anna,

I tried matching up all the suggested paints against original unfaded a couple of years ago and I couldn't tell the difference between original and RAL 1013. (Pearl white / oyster white)

The other bonus is there is no mixing, which causes colour variation, it is relatively cheep, it can be used in paint or powder coat and it is available as a standard colour. RAL 1013.

Check out my Dommie 99 on my NE VMCC website.

There are pictures on here if you go back about 15 months.

Don't know why anyone would look elsewhere for Norton Dove Grey?
