Chain case fixing issue

Forums

My 16H oil bath case nut has had to be turned down to hall thickness so it goes onto the serrated footpeg far enough for the serrations to pick up the footpeg. Somewhere a dimension is missing but I can't work out where.

I can fit it all together but the nut must be very much tighter than it should be.

I don't know how it all goes together. Or even if the footpeg support is loose or welded to the engine plate. Taking the inner case off is not how I want to spend my time! I can't think of any way to extend the footpeg tube. Has anyone else encountered this?

Meanwhile it's going back as it was. But it's a mystery.

David,

My Dommi's use a thick nut which measures  0.331" thick and I get the optimum 1-2 threads showing when the outer cover is tight. My singles use a thinner nut (0.243" thick)  for the same optimum tightening.

Thanks Ian... my others are OK just like that. Gerardo...thanks also. Pic number 3 shows the fixed footpeg tube. I've dug out a parts list and the tube came ready fixed to the engine plate as the picture shows. So unless  I strip it and get a new one welded on, it looks like I'll have to put up with it. I still can't think how it happened unless a PO filed new serrations. If so, he did a good job with the shape but there must be at least 1/4" missing.
