Bronze skull head ?

Forums

I have recently bought a 500cc Norton Cammy and the guy spoke of a bronze skull head. What does this look like, how do I find it and how do I know what f this bike has one please ? This is my first Norton to restore.

I would have thought you take the cylinder head off and look inside it, Paul. If it has an internal bronze looking liner (like a "skull") it is a skull head. George

Just have a look where the carburetor bolts onto the head. The flange on the intake manifold will be bronze, same as in the photo above

Hi Paul,

Reading your message and being your first Norton restoration, you may have jumped in at the deep end. There are plenty of pit-falls and lots of people out there who will be pleased to take money for supposedly Inter parts, so be very aware and do as much research as possible. Read these websites thoroughly to get the ball rolling.

www.norton.uk.com and www.racingnorton.co.uk

Regards, Richard.

Take the plug out. Shine a bright light, the thread is 90% in the bronze part...
