Best roadgoing vertical gearbox gear set

Forums

Hello

I have two vertical gearboxes identified as A and B below. I have a rigid frame ES2 I would like to insert one of these gearboxes into. I am reaching out to the global Norton community for help and a question.

Which gearbox would be best suited for road applications? A or B ?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Your two gearboxes should be the same.

Your layshaft 3rd gear N8039 is from a close ratio cluster

and will not mesh up correctly to N8040

Gearbox A has all the correct gears for a standard gearbox wich

should serve you well on the road.

If you want I can swap your N8039 for the correct N8040 and then

you will have two gearboxes for the road.

I note that your part numbers are the same in both proposed gear clusters. That would mean that the tooth numbers are the same.

It is correct that Norton gears add up to 42. However this did alter with the AMC2 gear cluster of 1960, when the 4th mainshaft gear and 3rd layshaft gear were altered.
