Hi everyone finally managed to get an original slimline mudguard blade

quick question does anyone know a supplier for the bridge stay / black stays?

Cheers,

Tom

Hi Tom,

It appears that both Norvil and RGM stock the front bridge and stays but you will need to check that the bridge is thethe wider one which you need.

The stays are fairly generic with 11.5 inches between centres (just measured mine). As you seem to know the UK market bikes would usually be painted black and those for the export market chromed although there is evidence that they used what was available or requested

If you really get stuck for stays I have some in my 'just in case I bin it' stock but I'd prefer to keep these.

Good luck,

Graham

Hi Tom

The front guard is the same for a 1967 650SS and Atlas and you have the right one. The stays are the same but as I said above UK market are usually black and US market chromed.I have also painted the bridge of my UK market 650SS black but not sure whether the US market would be chromed.

The correct brace is a heavily pressed item that follows the contours of the guard and fork legs . I have looked for one for years .Found one a few weeks ago ,a very secondhand one from a late Navigator or Electra.

Do the Navigator/Electra Mudguards fit the slimline?

Hi Terry,

Agreed the guard blade would be chrome but I was referring to the stays. Apologies my post was unclear.

Fritz,

I understood the Navigator / Electra guard was a smaller pressing but the same style. Different sized wheels? Someone else may be able to confirm this. I suspect Navigator / Electra guards are equally as scarce.

The best source for Atlas / 650ss guardsremains theUSA. Search 'norton fender' as both front and rear guards come up most months (usually from Atlases but they are the same). They are not cheap especially when you factor in carriage, duty and chroming but they are available. However you need to be aware that the Americans were fond of 'bobbing' the original guards i.e. they shortened them, so these are no good for a standard restoration.

Navigator and Electra use the same wheels and tyres as Dominators and the front mudguards are interchangeable. Some AMC big twins used the same mudguards too,but were drilled in diferent places.Let us Know Tom ,how you get on with the RGM part.

Fred Williams in the UK does all types of stays and bridges, although they are usually undrilled. He does jumbles and shows at Kempton Park, Stafford etc. but not the West Country as it's too far from Bedford where he lives.
