1935 16H magdyno points

Forums

Ive just bought this machine and am having trouble finding a good parts list with exploded diagrams....does one exist?

My Magdyno is marked MO1-4 465110 AG4 542. Someone has suggested that this is a later mag than 1935? My points inc the housing is missing. So I can find the correct replacement, can anyone tell me which side the ad/retard should be?

thanks

I've no experience with pre-war, but some of the info in the following link may help - I haven't read it all, but if it's correct, "MO1-4 AG4" would be correct for a Norton, and "542" would probably indicate May, 1942

The brightsparksmagnetos site also has a lot of detailed Lucas info.

For 1935, the original fitment was the ring-cam MS1 AG1 (with of course a third brush dynamo mounted above it).  The face-cam MO1 was introduced for 1937. It sounds as if you have a WD16H magdyno which is a 100 % substitution.

The only practical disadvantage is that the deeper points cover required a larger cutaway on the top edge of the primary chaincase which may not be present on yours...even then, the points have to be correctly aligned in order to remove the cover easily.

Originally, with a clockwise mag, yours had the A/R cable next to the cylinder giving tight wire advance. You can build it as you prefer - you'll need the correct cam plate for the side that you choose. Points

Richard...that's finally explained why my mag cover is so hard to remove! I now need to check if I can just shorten the cover.
