I have recently restored a 1954 ES 2 and made a rocker cover gasket from high temp gasket material. I now find that there is a substantial oil leak from the top of the pushrod tubes. If I remove the gasket, should I use some kind of sealer or is it necessary?

I don't use a gasket, just coat both faces with a thin film of Wellseal. That's the easy bit, trying to get a good oil seal at the head is my nightmare! John
