Mobile mechanic Croydon part 2

Forums

hi everyone thank you for all your advice and help on getting my dads ES2 started. I have managed to get her to fire once a few times but nothing more then that. The exhaust pipe has got hot so I know it must almost be there. As I mentioned in my first post I'm a total new comer to all this. Could anyone offer any advice on why it won't continue to fire and dies after the first one?

Thank you once again for all the help this forum has given me! Jon

Could be a number of things so you need to provide some more info. You do not sound that far away from getting it going.

What is your current startup procedure, include what throttle settings, choke and ignition advance you are using.

Is the fuel fresh, modern fuels go off quickly as your tank needs to breathe so the cap has a breather which lets the volatile fractions evaporate, a carburated engine needs these volatile fractions until it warms up. After 2 or 3 weeks it starts to go off and make starting difficult.

Have you rebuilt/cleaned the carb, if you have what settings have you done on the throttle stop screw and the pilot jet mixture screw. These can only be starting points, but to tune them correctly the engine needs to be warm so the final adjustments can be made. Bit of a catch 22.

Have you had any success yet, Jonathan? I and probably some others will be riding past on a Norton Single only a mile or two from Addiscombe on Sunday on the way to or from Warlingham.
