Air cleaner for Navigator deluxe

Never seen one. However, its listed in the spares list as P/No JACA/16 (whole assembly), whilst the air filter (only) is P/No 22212

Norton must have produced & shipped them on bikes that went abroad, hot countries especially.

But in the 40+years that I've been tinkering with lightweights - have not seen one.

As its listed same part for both D/Lux (faired in) & Standard models, I can only assume it was mounted on the carb itself - like a modern KONI filter.

If proceeding - check the jetting (by doing a plug chop).

John, further to Andy's wise words above, the only air filter I have found that fits in the limited space between the back of the carb and main frame upright on a Standard Navigator is a conical one which I bought from Hitchcock's Motorcycles, the Royal Enfield specialist.   I have attached a couple of picture to show how it fits in seconds with a jubilee clip round the mouth of the carb.  You can find it in their on line shop under Amal carburettors, air filters conical:  PART No. AM/FILTER10  Air Filter, Conical, S&B, suitable 375 & 376 Monobloc £14.00 (Excl. VAT) £16.80 (Incl. VAT).   It is very basic and I suspect only keeps the worst of the dirt out but I felt better than nothing.   I haven't noticed any effect on performance and a plug check showed that I didn't need to change the jets but always worth doing because every bike and carb is slightly different!  I have never owned a Deluxe so  ant be certain it will fit but I would be amazed if it didn't.   Hope that helps.  Nick

Hi I've fitted a similar item to the above pictures, but it came with a threaded collar and just screwed on to the carb - not requiring a jubilee clip or similar to retain it.

I got the item from feked.com or you can buy direct from Burlen Fuel systems, who make Amal carbs and all the spares for the full range.

Curiously, my Navi carb has a screw thread & a small Bell Mouth on the carb - while my Electra has a plain (bare) stub. I wonder if it once had an aircleaner....

Colin, That’s for strengthening the frame for the 400 engine I believe.

The metallic Blue bike is a Navigator in the pictures above (images p4260015/6)

And the Red/Burgundy tank bike is an Electra.

The 'extra' steel you see on the Electra is a part of the strengthening system on the ES400 to support the headstock - due to the extra weight being carried.
