Fitting Jubilee forks

I've not done the following on a Jubilee, but it has worked for me on many bikes.

Lots of thick grease in the cups, making sure balls are held in by it, then with a ratchet strap made into a loop, offer the lower yoke into the frame. Pass strap between lower yoke and over top of frame and tighten such that the lower yoke and bearing is held in place. Then all you have to do is fit the top cup, top yoke and nut and you are done.

Can be done with a bungy strap, but it is less secure because they stretch.

Dan, I found it impossible to fit the forks on my own. With the help of my wife, and a lot of cursing, we managed it. I used heavy grease to hold the balls in place. It took a few attempts but it is possible. No trick just perseverance. Good luck.

I've noticed the difficulty of fitting the top cone and balls, while holding the forks in place, without all the balls falling past the steering stem. Observation of various lightweight cups for the frame member tells me that the Jubilee top fixed cup has a smaller centre hole than the Navigator item. If the proper cup bearing is fitted it is not possible for the 1/4in balls to fall through the gap between steering stem and top cup on assembly.

The difficulty arises if a Navigator top cup is fitted in a frame member for a Jubilee. It will fit and function fine, but it has the larger hole in the centre to accommodate Roadholder fork stem. The upper balls can fall through on assembly if you are unlucky.

Yes - as found above - Jubilee Cups AND Cones are different to Navigator/Electra.

The Jubilee has two cups P No 21709, top cone 21708 and lower cone 21710

The Navi has 2 cups 23381 and two cones 23380.

The hole up the middle is larger for the Navi/Electra - as the steering stem is fatter.

(Means Navi cups will fit a Jubilee - but not the other way round. The cones are different and not interchangeable).
